9. sweet

After Diwali, Dax began getting assignments. Now that he had Sana waiting for him, the guilt of murder seeped into his soul and made it heavier. There she was, doubting her morality over a single kill while he was on his seventy second kill, somehow greedy for a chance of a new beginning. A clean slate. That was all he lived for and having Sana by his side made that dream seem less hopeless.

Dax didn’t know what happened. One day he was annoyed by her kindness and her caramel smile and the next day he was falling for her for the same reasons. He didn’t plan for it. He never even imagined it --- having a woman who claimed she loved him first, that she felt safe and understood by him. It was so ironical that it made Dax let out a sick laugh when he thought about it. His constant fear was that she’d leave him if she knew the number of lives he’d taken. Now that he’d had the taste of hope and sunshine daydreams, he was afraid to let it go.
